The No. 1 reason why to never share a fridge with co-workers... =)

10 May 07 - 15:25

Just deorbited from our inner sanctum (@work) into trash...:

    delicious food picture 1
    delicious food picture 2
... they forget about their sh*t. ;)

delete mails with Thunderbird 2.x (and Cyrus Imapd 2.3.8)

09 May 07 - 23:06

Weird... it worked - using 1.5.x - quite fine and I couldn't imagine that they've removed this real essential feature with their new release :)
However - google.com came to help and I figured that my very recent Cyrus Imapd release (2.3.8) seems to cause this...
Setting user rights to 'lrswipkxtecda' (previously 'lrswipkxteca' - note the missing 'd') fixed this issue for at least me.
Not quite sure if this is related to Cyrus or Thunderbird... let's see what more recent Thundebird releases will do for me.

rediffed OpenWall to linux-2.4.34.2 AND linux-vserver-1.2.10

02 May 07 - 18:00

Had to manually rediff $subject (wasn't that hard)... and here we go:

  patch-2.4.34.2-vs1.2.10-openwall-ow1.diff.txt
Not sure if this is of real help for anyone - but I enjoy this one in a productive environment. =) But take care - it might not be suited for all cases - especially when you're using very different/very recent distros as linux-vserver guests... Something - unknown - made my RPM buildservers crash/deadlock during RPM operations... and thus I had to deorbit this one - and switch back to 2.4.32... See http://www.openwall.com/linux/ and http://linux-vserver.org/ for further information.

Why removing libs from /usr/local/lib/compat might be not what you really want :)

26 April 07 - 00:46

Me just recognized:

    [frank@amazone]/usr/home/frank: gpg
/libexec/ld-elf.so.1: Shared object "libintl.so.6" not found, required by "gpg"
... which wasn't what I've really expected when removing 'stray' libs from above mentioned directory, hehe:)
Need to fix/recompile - when time permits...
OK - this is fixed now - I've recompiled/reinstalled all ports involved.

search 'engine' annoyances

26 April 07 - 00:09

It really sucks when search 'engines' on webpages cannot deal with german umlauts - or better yet - the lack of them.
My favourite MMORPG quest helper website distinguishs between 'ö' and 'oe' and 'ä' and 'ae' and so on...
and this makes searching quests quite hard - since my currently most favoured MMORPG is very well localized (which sucks balls as well :p)
And thus it's still very uncertain to which MMORPG I'm addicted :))
... and a def 'NO' - I won't change my keyboard layout!!! :)

finally sound on ASUS M2N-E running FreeBSD-CURRENT :)

10 March 07 - 23:20

Just noticed that snd_hda works! Yeah!
Could have discovered this some days earlier... 'kldload snd_driver' loads everything and 'cat /dev/sndstat' actually shows the module name (if detected).

ICQ wtfery...

10 March 07 - 22:58

'Me wise magic' I thought when I hacked some PHP code to display my ICQ status...
My idea was to download the status pictures I've chosen from 'http://status.icq.com/online.gif?icq=my_uin&img=theme_i_ve_chosen'
and sha256 them... compare the checksum with the results I've seen before for online/offline - and voila - done.
But alas... this doesn't work anymore - some pathetic sinner changed sth - and it doesn't match anymore (it only worked for round about 2 weeks). :/

Livin' on the bright side of life...

28 February 07 - 19:15

According to a german proverb (at least it's common knowledge where I life)...
'Stepping into dog poo brings luck...'
So - well, let's hope so :)

Today's my birthday!

16 February 07 - 09:08

Yes... and once again - since 1974 (thus I'm 33 years old - for the feebleminded amongst us ;p).

website relaunched...

10 February 07 - 15:10

Aaaah - I finally managed to replace the 'old' website *coughs* (wouldn't even name it website, tbh) by some better looking pages...
And if you're really curious how that crap looked like before... here we go
Enjoy your stay!
